MYSTERY 2004 – 2005

This year’s mystery will be made with three colors.  The skill level will be beginner to intermediate, so give it a try.  You will need a neutral – either light or dark, and then two colors that will show up well against the neutral and will contrast with each other.  Here is an example – a yellow as neutral, and red and blue as your contrast colors.  One way designs will not work well with this quilt, but you can use fabrics with small or medium prints.  Scrappy will not work terribly well either, unless you can find scraps that are all the same color.  I really don’t recommend scrappy for this quilt.

This year I am offering you the option of three different sizes, so read your directions carefully to make sure you are using the right figures.  I will call them small, medium and large, for want of a better system.  The sizes and yardage I am giving are BEFORE the borders – so be sure to purchase more fabric for your borders.  I have padded the yardage amounts a tiny bit, so it is up to you.  I strongly suggest that once you purchase your fabric, you make a little swatch card and label the colors A, B and C (neutral).  Since the cutting instructions for A and B are the same, it will help to have them labeled when it comes time to construct the block.

Remember – you will need more fabric for borders, binding, and backing.  Also, if you want to make the next steps much easier, consider buying an Easy Angler or an Angler 2 if you don’t already have one.  They are awfully cool and don’t cost much.
